Cannot stand messy, dirty or disorganized household. Though she may seem
lazy, if motivated enough, she can become very productive (especially,
in the "cleaning" department anyways), loves good food and likes

History: Originally from Japan during
the Edo period, Miyako was once a runt kitten who was left by her mother
to die. She waited for a long while for her mother to return, not realizing
she was abandoned, before she tried to go out and survive on scraps and
left overs thrown away on the street corners. Most humans tend try to
drive her away when they see her, until one day she was found and taken
in by a very poor, middle aged cook who, though had a talent in the art
of cuisine, had dreams of serving at the imperial court's banquet. Despite
her master's lowly status, he has always kept her well fed and protected,
even if it meant he did not eat as well. He had loved and cared for her
so much as she were his own child. He did not cut her tail nor take her
life before she could become one of the" yokai" according to
local legends. For his act of kindness, she had devoted her life to seeing
that her master's dream came to fruit, so she helped in the cleaning of
his home and kitchen tools when he slept, so tired and weary from work.
Her one wish was to see her master happy and his wishes come true, but
alas, it was not to be.
There were rumors about her throughout the village as a strange creature
that was able to do unusual things that cats normally do not do. Some
villagers have spotted her in her nightly cleaning chores, amazed and
fearful of her unusual behavior. But then a terrible incident happened
to the village. A dark, evil creature was reported to snatch away the
children and women to eat them and it was said that the form the witnesses
saw was a cat-like form. Angered and outraged, the villagers sought vengeance
and went to the poor cook's home. Believing her innocence, her master
did the best he could to protect her, but he was killed by the local villagers
because they thought she was the demon that terrorized the village, and
that it had possessed the cook. She watched her master being killed as
he tried to protect her from the villager's wrath. Heartbroken and scared,
she fled and sought to have vengeance for her master's unnecessary death.
Before she can exact her revenge, she had a dream of her master, begging
her to not take that path. She had loved her master so much that she dared
not to go against his wishes, even if it was only a vision. Instead of
vengeance against the villagers, she swore vengeance against the demon
that resulted in his demise. So for many decades, she has sought out the
creature that has cause her to be framed for the deaths of the women and
children of that village.
As to how she arrived at Ariana and Caleb's door, this is the current
story. She was on the hunt for fish to eat, when she caught Nerissa in
her fish trap. Because Nerissa's particular mermaid race are originally
fish, Miyako has preyed upon them in the past. If not for Dyani catching
up to her in time, Nerissa would've been eaten. Dyani begged Miyako not
to eat her friend, and Miyako felt sympathy to Dyani and thus released
Nerissa. She was going to leave until Dyani invited her to come to their
home. There she met the rest of the family. At first she wasn't going
to stay, but there was something about both the "adults" that
reminded her of her master. Ariana's love for the cooking and her kindness
to her and Caleb's kindness to children in general (despite his allergies
to cats of all kinds) and his perseverance and determination to get things
done, reminded her so much of being with her master that she decided to
stay, much to Dyani's delight and, Nerissa and Luna's dismay. Nerissa
is uneasy with Miyako because she has preyed upon her type of people before,
and Luna doesn't trust her because she is feline (and gives her father
an allergic reaction).
She has sworn her devotion to the "family" that took her in,
(mainly Ariana, Caleb and Dyani), for their trust and kindness. And as
such, helps Ariana and Dyani in the shop, by cleaning. She often shows
her affections on Dyani by "grooming" her. Dyani doesn't seem
mind because in a away it reminds her of being mothered, because she is
still a "baby" for all intent purposes. Nerissa, was probably
the first between her and Luna to accept her, especially once she understood
that Miyako was not going to eat her (as it would upset Dyani and the
adults that she has come to pledge her services to). Though Luna gradually
accepted her, she and her always seem to be at odds with each other and,
thus in a way, became rivals. To help with Caleb's allergy issues, she
remains in her "human" form for the most part when he's around.
She also tries to get Caleb to help her track the demon that she has been
hunting centuries for, even though Caleb is reluctant in her getting involved
such things. Despite the fact that Miyako takes the form of a female child,
she's actually much more "mature" in age. She seems to stay
in a child-like form since she has this secret strong need to be loved,
cared for, and still has insecurity issue despite being so cool and confident.
About the race/clan: A yokai, particularly of
the obake (to transform) variety known as a bakeneko. According to tradition,
cats who live to a certain age or grows their tail to a certain length
(which splits into two) are said to become a bakeneko. There are many
legends of such creatures that are both good and bad. Bad ones are said
to eat women and children and take their place in appearance, causing
mischief in the household. Good ones are said to protect their family
and/or masters, trying to help them any way they can. Such famous bakeneko
legend is the ManekiNeko, the beckoning cat or fortune cat that belonged
to a poor monk. The cat beckoned a nobleman from the tree during the rain
storm, saving his life as moments later the lightning struck the tree.
Ever since then the temple the cat resided in was well sponsored and taken
care of. As such were the bakeneko. Varied in good or evil, depending
on their circumstances and devotion to their masters. |
